Akasa Air is an Indian upcoming low-cost airline co-founded by billionaire and stocks trader Rakesh Jhunjhunwala and former Jet Airways CEO Vinay Dube.

It is expected to start operations in summer of 2022 with a fleet of new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

During March 2021, reports surfaced that Vinay Dube the former CEO of Jet Airways and GoFirst planned to launch a new low-cost carrier in India with former GoFirst Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), Praveen Iyer and Head of Flight Operations, Nikhil Ved.

In July 2021, India billionaire trader Rakesh Jhunjhunwala invested $35 million for a 40% stake in the carrier.

It received a No Objection Certificate from the Ministry of Civil Aviation in October 2021. The airline is in the process of receiving its Air Operator's Certificate (AOC) next as well. After receiving an AOC the airline will start operations within 3 to 6 months. The airline is aiming to launch flights in the summer of 2022. Akasa Air is eyeing the Boeing 737 MAX for their operations and has stated that they aim to induct around 70 of those planes in the next four years.

On 22 December 2021, the airline unveiled its brand identity and logo, with the tagline It's Your Sky.
The airline said the symbol 'rising A' was inspired by elements from the sky - "It symbolises the warmth of the rising sun, the effortless flight of a bird and the dependability of an aircraft wing," it said.

On 16 November 2021, Akasa Air ordered 72 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft valued at nearly $9 billion in list prices. The order consists of 737 MAX 8 and the high-capacity 737 MAX 200 variants.
